Unsure about engagement photos?

This post might change your mind.

Your engagement session creates an opportunity for you and your future other half to spend an evening together blissfully gazing into each other’s eyes and giggling about your nerdy photographer’s gushy requests. Chances are you are probably going to put a little extra effort into your outfits and it’s always fun to celebrate those nights by adding some special touches, maybe pair your photo session with dinner plans or a cocktail?

There’s also a plentiful array of bonus uses for your engagement photos. Of course, the pictures will be great to use as decorations throughout your home and at the wedding reception but here’s some other great ways to get the maximum benefit from your engagement session:

  1. Post a bunch on your wedding website and in your wedding Facebook group
  2. Incorporate into your Save the Dates and/or invitations
  3. Design a welcome book for guests to sign that features your photos
  4. Create a personalized favor for your guests with your gorgeous faces – Magnet? Stickers?
  5. Print an 11×14 with a mat and have wedding guests sign it

Most importantly your engagement session provides an opportunity to truly experience your photographer’s personality and shooting style. Most couple’s don’t find themselves commissioning photo shoots too often so this will ease your anxiety about the photo shoot and prepare you for what to expect. The engagement session is also a casual stress-free session. You’re not on a schedule and being pulled by your wedding coordinator to get to your announcements and first dance. Our only time limit is when the sun sets so we can take the shoot at our own pace, just get to know each other and create beautiful pictures. On your wedding day, your couple’s session will likely be much shorter so it’s super helpful to have the experience of being directed and posed ahead of the big day.

The best advice really does come from the couples who have had their own experiences and put their photos to good use at all of the different occasions leading up to the wedding (bridal shower, engagement party, welcome party) and on the wedding day itself. Here’s some helpful feedback from real couples who booked engagement sessions as part of the wedding photography package...

Beautiful Photos

“Christine was THE best. My fiancé and I have never really been in front of a camera and she made us feel completely comfortable throughout the shoot. Not to mention we picked a shoot location that involved a mile hike in rising tides… Christine was in the water at times to get the best angles! We could not have asked for a better photographer. Our photos turned out beautiful and we have used them for our Save the Dates and our wedding website. Our friends and family rave about the photos as well. THANK YOU Christine!!!”

The Right Call

“Working with Christine for both our wedding photos and engagement photos was the right call. The engagement photos gave us a chance to get comfortable with her and her photographic style as well as get great photos for us to use for our Save the Dates and our wedding website. Having the engagement shoot first allowed us to look forward to seeing her again instead of being anxious about being photographed by her on our big day.”

Best Experience

“My fiancé and I had the best experience getting our engagement photos done by Christine! She will be photographing our wedding as well, and we can’t wait! She made us both feel so comfortable and entirely ourselves throughout the photo shoot experience. We couldn’t have imagined anything better! Neither of us particularly like being in the spotlight, but Christine put us at ease right from the start.”
